Brouwerij De Halve Maan is a historic family brewery located in the heart of Bruges, Belgium. Founded in 1856 when Henri Maes acquired the property, the brewery has remained family-owned and operated for over six generations. Today it stands as the only active family brewery in the centre of Bruges, and has earned the distinction of being the most visited brewery in Belgium. Its centuries-old location in the historic city centre makes it both a living piece of brewing heritage and a beloved cultural landmark. The brewery is home to a focused but celebrated portfolio of Belgian specialty beers, brewed with respect for tradition and craftsmanship. Using four different kinds of malt and two aromatic hop varieties, the brewers craft beers that balance heritage with modern technique. The range includes well-known Belgian styles such as blonde ale, witbier and strong ale, all united by a commitment to quality and authentic Bruges brewing character. De Halve Maan is best known for three signature beer brands: Brugse Zot, Straffe Hendrik and Blanche de Bruges. Brugse Zot has grown into one of Belgium's most popular specialty beers, while Straffe Hendrik represents the brewery's stronger, more complex side. The brewery also welcomes visitors with guided tours and a taproom experience, making it a must-visit destination for beer lovers travelling to Bruges.
