Brouwerij Het Anker

Brouwerij Het Anker is one of Belgium's oldest and most storied breweries, rooted in the city of Mechelen. Its history stretches back centuries, with the brewery operating as a steam-powered facility from 1872 onwards. Over the generations, the brewery faced significant challenges, but it was the determination of the Leclef family — most notably Charles Leclef — that saved and revitalized the institution. Drawing on Mechelen's deep brewing heritage, the family committed to honoring the brewery's past while continuing to craft world-class Belgian ales. In recent years, Brouwerij Het Anker was acquired by Brewery Huyghe, uniting two major pillars of Belgian brewing tradition. The brewery's portfolio is both broad and impressive, spanning 14 brands across 41 beer styles. Het Anker is particularly celebrated for its Gouden Carolus range, a flagship series of Belgian ales named after the gold coins of Holy Roman Emperor Charles V. The lineup includes styles such as Strong Ale, Tripel, and a seasonal Christmas ale, all brewed with characteristic Belgian complexity. The Gouden Carolus Ambrio, recreated from a 15th-century recipe, reflects the brewery's deep connection to regional brewing history. With robust malt profiles, refined hop character, and traditional Belgian fermentation, Het Anker's beers are benchmarks of the craft.
