Van Honsebrouck (Kasteelbier, Brigand)
Belgium
Van Honsebrouck, also known as Kasteel Brouwerij Vanhonsebrouck, is a Belgian brewery with deep roots in West Flanders. Originally based in Izegem, the brewery relocated in 2016 to a new, modern facility in the nearby town of Emelgem. With a history stretching back generations, Van Honsebrouck has grown into one of Belgium's most recognisable family breweries, renowned for its diverse and characterful range of beers. The brewery is in many ways four breweries in one, with installations suited for top-fermentation beers such as the Kasteel range, mixed-fermentation beers, and more. Their portfolio spans a wide array of Belgian styles, most notably the Kasteelbier family — which includes Kasteel Tripel, Kasteel Donker, and several other variants — as well as the St. Louis range and the well-known Brigand. Brigand is a strong golden ale that undergoes bottle refermentation, offering a creamy head, a full-bodied palate, and a firm bitterness accentuated by the use of unmalted wheat. Among their flagship beers, Brigand stands out as a Belgian Strong Golden Ale with over 53,000 ratings on Untappd, reflecting its broad appeal among craft beer enthusiasts worldwide. The brewery's combination of traditional Belgian brewing techniques and a modern facility makes Van Honsebrouck a cornerstone of Belgian beer culture.
