Brouwerij Maallust is a craft beer brewery located in Veenhuizen, a village in the Dutch province of Drenthe with a remarkably rich and layered history. The brewery was founded in 2011 by a group of 25 investors and entrepreneurs who call themselves 'de Zware Jongens' (the Heavy Guys). They chose Veenhuizen deliberately, a place steeped in social and industrial heritage, and set up their brewing operation in a former grain mill that now doubles as both brewery and tasting room. That deep connection to local history serves as a direct source of inspiration for everything Maallust produces. Maallust focuses on specialty beers that reflect the character and heritage of their surroundings. Among their beers is the De Weldoener Blond, a Blonde/Golden Ale at 6.5% ABV, which gives a sense of their approachable yet crafted style. The old grain mill setting lends an authentic and atmospheric backdrop to the brewing process, and the on-site tasting room invites visitors to experience the beers in their original environment. Brewery Maallust has built a strong international reputation, winning Double Gold at the European Beer Challenge and being recognised as Brewery of the Year 2026. The brewery and its taproom in Veenhuizen are also praised as a destination worth visiting, combining craft beer culture with a unique sense of place in the heart of Drenthe.
