Brouwerij Hof ten Dormaal is a farmhouse brewery located in Tildonk, Belgium, run by the Janssens family — father André and his sons, including brewer Jef Janssens. The brewery stands out from the very beginning by its agricultural roots: the family grows their own hops and barley on the farm, making them true farmer-brewers in the most literal sense. As André Janssens himself puts it, they are not beer geeks but farmers who brew, a philosophy that shapes everything they do. The brewery's portfolio is remarkably diverse and adventurous, spanning traditional Belgian styles as well as innovative creations. Among their notable beers is Witgoud, a Belgian Strong Pale Ale and the only Belgian beer to incorporate witloof (Belgian endive), a genuine first in Belgian brewing history. Their range also includes barrel-aged sour beers such as Zure Van Tildonk, a blond barrel-aged sour, and a Kriek built on top of it. Dark ales aged in Ardbeg barrels further demonstrate their willingness to push boundaries. With 17 beers in their lineup, the brewery offers a wide spectrum of styles. Hof ten Dormaal has attracted international attention, including recognition in publications dedicated to hidden gems of Belgian brewing. Brewers from respected international breweries such as Allagash have visited to learn traditional brewing techniques. The brewery, tucked between grain fields and meadows, welcomes visitors and is proud to share the full story of their beer and their land.
