De Bekeerde Suster is a historic brewery and restaurant located in the heart of Amsterdam, situated on the grounds of the former Bethaniënklooster (Bethany Monastery). The café itself has roots stretching back to the sixteenth century, making it one of the most storied drinking establishments in the Dutch capital. The modern brewing operation was added around 2000–2004, reviving an authentic brewing tradition on-site and giving the venue a new identity as a genuine craft brewery. The brewery also made use of the building and installation of the earlier Maximiliaan brewery, which had ceased operations about a decade prior. De Bekeerde Suster brews its own beers on a dedicated in-house brewing installation, offering visitors a direct connection between the brewing process and the glass in hand. The brewery is known for its seasonal and specialty releases, including a bock beer historically nicknamed 'De Gewaeghde Bock', a name that arose organically and became part of the brewery's local lore. The taproom combines a warm, modern atmosphere with the weight of centuries of history, making it a destination for both beer enthusiasts and visitors to Amsterdam. Beyond its own brewing programme, De Bekeerde Suster has also provided brewing capacity for other projects, including The Hollows Brewing. The brewery is widely regarded as an iconic venue in Amsterdam's craft beer landscape, attracting locals and tourists alike to its unique setting in a former monastery.
