Rogue Ales

Rogue Ales was founded in 1988 as a brewpub, making it one of Oregon's oldest craft breweries. Based in Newport, Oregon, the brewery grew out of the early American craft beer movement and quickly expanded beyond its original brewpub roots to achieve wide national distribution. Over the decades, Rogue became a prominent name in the craft beer world, recognized as a groundbreaking and hugely influential brewer during the formative years of the American craft beer scene. Rogue built a diverse portfolio spanning a broad range of styles, from ales and porters to IPAs and Double IPAs. The brewery was among the early adopters of bold, hop-forward brewing in the 1990s, contributing to styles such as the Double IPA. One of its most iconic beers, Dead Guy Ale, became a flagship product and a symbol of the Rogue brand identity. The Hazelnut Brown Nectar Ale is another well-known offering that earned recognition in international beer competitions, including a bronze medal placement. In recent years, Rogue underwent a deliberate brand reconsideration and refocusing of its portfolio. Despite its storied legacy, the brewery faced significant operational challenges, ultimately closing its Newport operations in 2025. Discussions around a potential resurrection of the Rogue brand continued into 2026, leaving the future of this once-pioneering Oregon brewery uncertain.
