About
Rogue Beard Beer is an American wild ale from Rogue Ales in Newport, Oregon, brewed with wild yeast cultured from nine beard hairs belonging to brewmaster John Maier, who has maintained the same beard since 1983. The recipe combines two-row and Munich malts—some grown in Oregon's Klamath Basin—with Willamette hops. The beer pours a cloudy copper colour with a thick head. On the nose, bready malt and light sweetness emerge. The palate delivers lemon zest, caramel malt, banana, and clove notes. A soft bitterness and subtle sour character frame the finish, creating a profile that echoes Belgian wild ale traditions while remaining distinctly American in its restraint.
