Rogue's Rolling Thunder Imperial Stout from Newport, Oregon is an ambitious barrel-aged stout matured for nine months in handcrafted barrels previously filled with Dead Guy Whiskey. The brewery draws on ingredients from its own farms: dark malts, cacao nibs, brown sugar and Belgian candi syrup work alongside Cascade hops. In the glass it appears black with ruby hues. The aroma offers dark chocolate, coffee and vanilla. On the palate, molasses, cocoa and coffee emerge, supported by the bourbon and oak character from the whiskey barrels. The finish is warm and dry, with lingering bourbon and vanilla notes.
