Leffe is a Belgian abbey beer brand with roots stretching back to 1240, when the monks of Notre-Dame de Leffe began brewing beer at their abbey on the banks of the Meuse river in the province of Namur. The abbey itself was founded in 1152, and brewing became a way for the monks to offer refreshment to passing pilgrims and travellers. Over the centuries, production was interrupted several times, most notably during periods of turmoil, before being revived in 1952 through a partnership between the Leffe abbey and the Lootvoet brewery in Overijse. That brewery was later acquired, and today all Leffe beers are brewed at the Stella Artois brewery in Leuven, under licence from the Abbey of Leffe, which holds the officially recognised Belgian abbey beer designation. Leffe offers a broad portfolio of beers united by a rich and characterful style inspired by the abbey brewing tradition. The range is known for its expressive flavour profiles, featuring notes of fruit, caramel, liquorice, coffee, and banana depending on the variety. From golden blonde to deep dark ales, each beer in the Leffe lineup brings a distinct character rooted in Belgian brewing heritage. The brand is owned by AB InBev and is today one of the most widely distributed Belgian abbey beer brands in the world.
