Mount Saint Bernard Abbey is a Trappist monastery located in Coalville, Leicestershire, England. Founded in 1835 on land donated by Ambrose Lisle March Phillipps De Lisle, it holds the distinction of being the United Kingdom's only Trappist monastery and the world's 14th Trappist brewery. The abbey began brewing beer as part of its monastic tradition, following the centuries-old practice of Trappist monks producing beer to sustain their community. The brewery is renowned for Tynt Meadow, a dark English Trappist ale brewed at 7.4% ABV, which made history as the first Trappist ale ever brewed in the United Kingdom. The beer takes its name from the meadows surrounding the abbey and reflects a distinctly English character within the broader Trappist tradition. Alongside Tynt Meadow, the abbey has also produced a Blonde and Golden Ale, showcasing a small but carefully crafted portfolio rooted in monastic brewing values. As one of only 12 certified Authentic Trappist Products in the world at the time of its recognition, Mount Saint Bernard Abbey occupies a unique place in global brewing history. The abbey has also participated in collaborative brewing projects, including the Three Rules of Authentic Trappist collaboration, further cementing its reputation within the international Trappist brewing community.
