Brasserie de la Mule is a brewery based in Brussels, Belgium, housed in a striking 19th-century brick-and-stone building in the Belgian capital. Founded by Jean-Yves Horn, a Brussels native, the brewery has carved out a distinctive niche in the city's vibrant beer scene by drawing inspiration from German brewing traditions rather than the Belgian classics more commonly associated with the region. The brewery is particularly known for its dedication to German beer styles, including a Kölsch-style beer and Helles Spezial, setting it apart from most Belgian breweries. Brasserie de la Mule is one of only two Belgian breweries known to practice decoction mashing — a traditional and labour-intensive German brewing technique — alongside Brasserie de la Senne. This commitment to craftsmanship extends beyond lager styles: the brewery also produces kriekenbier, using sour cherries from its own trees once they yield a sufficient harvest. Brasserie de la Mule has a taproom connected to the brewery, though its opening hours have varied over time. The brewery has attracted attention both locally and internationally for its unconventional approach in the Belgian brewing landscape, offering beer lovers a rare taste of German-inspired brewing rooted firmly in Brussels.
