Brouwerij Leeghwater

Brouwerij Leeghwater is a craft brewery located in De Rijp, in the heart of Noord-Holland, the Netherlands. The brewery was founded in 2012 by head brewer Hans, who set out to create local beers inspired by the landscape and history of the region known as 'Het Land van Leeghwater' — named after the legendary 17th-century engineer Jan Adriaenszoon Leeghwater, who was instrumental in draining the polders of Noord-Holland. From the very beginning, the brewery has drawn on this rich regional heritage to tell the story of its surroundings through beer. Brouwerij Leeghwater specialises in craft beers, or speciaalbieren, brewed with a notable emphasis on hop character. The brewery's portfolio reflects the diverse world of specialty brewing, with beers designed to showcase bold flavours rooted in local identity. One of their well-known offerings is the Waaghals, a robust tripel at 8.8% ABV, characterised by a fruity aroma and a spiced, full-bodied taste — a beer that lives up to its daring name. In recent years, Brouwerij Leeghwater entered into a collaboration with Brouwerij Egmond (Sancti Adalberti), with knowledge-sharing and innovation at the core of the partnership. Under this arrangement, Sancti Adalberti takes on the brewing of Leeghwater's beers, while both breweries continue to develop their own distinct identities. The brewery's beers are available through major Dutch retailers, including Albert Heijn.
