Brouwerij De Ryck

Brouwerij De Ryck is a family brewery founded in 1886 by Gustave De Ryck in Herzele, a small town in the East Flemish region of Belgium. Originally established under the name 'Brouwerij De Gouden Arend' — meaning The Golden Eagle — the brewery was located opposite the local church and has remained in the same family for five generations. Over more than 135 years, De Ryck built a reputation for traditional, artisanal brewing rooted in the heritage of its Flemish surroundings. The brewery's portfolio centres around eight characterful beers, with the Arend range forming the backbone of its offering. This lineup includes the Arend Blond, a classic Belgian blond ale, the Arend Dubbel, and the Arend Tripel, a golden top-fermented beer of 8% ABV. Alongside the Arend range, the Steenuilke — a 6.5% ABV amber ale — is another recognised beer from the brewery. The beers reflect a commitment to traditional Belgian brewing styles, combining quality malt character with the complexity typical of top-fermentation. For over a century, Brouwerij De Ryck was a beloved institution in Herzele and broader Flemish beer culture. The brewery reached its 135th anniversary in 2021, celebrated as a milestone of craft and passion. However, in 2025 the brewery was sold, marking the end of an era for one of East Flanders' most enduring family breweries.
