Brouwerij Dockum
Netherlands · Founded in 2018
Brouwerij Dockum is a craft brewery located in Dokkum, in the heart of the Frisian province of the Netherlands. The city of Dokkum has a rich brewing history that stretches back centuries, though the last brewery closed its doors as far back as 1876. It was not until 2018 that the brewing tradition was revived when Brouwerij Dockum opened its doors, restoring a proud local legacy. The brewery was born out of a local passion for craftsmanship and regional flavours, with the Jellema family starting out with small test batches for friends before growing into a full-fledged artisan operation. Brewery Dockum specialises in ambachtelijk, or handcrafted, specialty beers brewed right in the heart of their taproom, combining beer with regional food in a Beers & Bites concept. The brewery takes pride in blending traditional brewing techniques with innovative approaches, drawing inspiration from the unique landscape and character of Friesland. Among their notable ingredients, local and regional produce — including connections to the nearby Wadden Sea area — play a role in shaping the flavour profiles of their beers. The taproom sits in a carefully renovated historic space and offers visitors an immersive brewery experience. Brouwerij Dockum has received strong praise from visitors, earning a 4.8 rating on Tripadvisor, and is regularly featured among the best breweries in the Netherlands. The brewery also participates in local events such as the Admiraliteitsdagen in Dokkum, where it showcases its specialty beers alongside fellow local brewer Bonifatius 754.
