Brewery Broeder Jacob is a Belgian craft brewery founded in 2010 by Johan Claes and Bruno Verbiest in Wazemaal, a village in the Belgian province of Flemish Brabant, near the border with the Netherlands. The brewery began as a gypsy brewery, meaning the founders initially brewed their beers at existing brewing facilities before establishing their own permanent home. The name and identity of the brewery are inspired by the internationally known nursery rhyme 'Frère Jacques' – known in Dutch as 'Broeder Jacob' – and the melody of this song is literally woven into the brewery's brand concept. Broeder Jacob has built a portfolio of Belgian specialty beers, including a Dubbel, a Tripel, and a dark beer. The beers are bottle-conditioned, meaning they undergo a secondary fermentation in the bottle, a traditional Belgian technique that adds complexity and depth. The brewery is known for producing ales inspired by the abbey beer tradition, with carefully balanced recipes that reflect classic Belgian craftsmanship. A notable collaboration beer is a dark brown beer brewed together with coffee-roasting factory Java, carrying an alcohol percentage of 7.7%. Over the years, Broeder Jacob has attracted international attention, including a presence at beer events in Singapore, where Belgian craft beer was being introduced to a wider Asian market. The brewery has since also been involved in the launch of Amburix Belgian Craft Brewery, a joint venture with Halen Breweries, further expanding its footprint in the Belgian craft beer landscape.
