Basqueland Brewing Project was founded in 2015 by two American friends, Kevin and Ben, who had made their home in Donostia-San Sebastián in the heart of the Basque Country, Spain. Driven by a shared passion for great food, drink, and the vibrant culture of the region, they set out to bring world-class craft beer to a country where the style was still finding its footing. Ben Matz, an experienced brewer with a strong pedigree, helped shape the brewery's first lineup of beers, laying the groundwork for what would become one of Spain's most celebrated brewing projects. Basqueland quickly built a reputation as a pioneer of the Spanish craft beer scene, brewing with ambition and technical precision. Their portfolio spans a wide range of styles, from hop-forward IPAs to more experimental and seasonal offerings, always rooted in quality ingredients and a craftsman's approach to fermentation and flavour. The brewery's identity is closely tied to the Basque Country — its landscape, its people, and its uncompromising standards. Over the years, Basqueland has grown from a local project into a nationally and internationally recognised brand, earning recognition as the Best Brewery in Spain.
