Kasteel Brouwerij Vanhonsebrouck is a family-owned Belgian brewery with roots stretching back to the early 1800s, when Amandus Vanhonsebrouck operated a brewery in the region. The modern brewery was established in 1900 and is located in Emelgem, a sub-municipality of Izegem in West Flanders. Over generations, the Vanhonsebrouck family has grown the operation into one of Belgium's most recognisable specialty beer producers, today housing what has been described as one of the most modern breweries in Europe. The brewery is best known for its diverse portfolio of Belgian specialty beers, marketed primarily under the Kasteel brand. In 1989, the brewery introduced Kasteelbier, a notably strong and sweet dark beer that became a cornerstone of the brand. The range has since expanded to include a variety of styles, with flagship labels such as Kasteel Donker, Kasteel Rouge, and the blonde ale Filou. The Bacchus range, a traditional West Flemish sour ale, further demonstrates the brewery's breadth across Belgian beer styles, from rich dark ales to fruit-forward and tart fermentations. Beyond brewing, Kasteel Brouwerij Vanhonsebrouck offers visitors a full experience at its Bierkasteel site in Emelgem, combining a brewery, restaurant, and beer boutique. With a current assortment of 19 beers and an international footprint, the brewery remains a prominent ambassador of Belgian beer culture.
