Bourgogne des Flandres is an authentic Flemish red-brown ale with deep roots in the city of Bruges, Belgium. Originally brewed by Den Os in Bruges, the brewery closed its doors in 1957, after which production moved to Brouwerij Verhaeghe. Since 1996, the brand has been owned by the John Martin group, one of Belgium's leading beer importers and brand owners. In 2015, the John Martin group brought the beer back to its spiritual home by opening a dedicated microbrewery in Bruges, restoring the brand's historic connection to the city. Bourgogne des Flandres is a Flemish red-brown ale, a classic and distinctive Belgian beer style. The flagship beer is brewed using ale, caramel malt, torrified wheat and English Kent hops. A notable expression in the range is Bourgogne des Flandres Pure, which is brewed on-site at the Bruges microbrewery and then blended with lambic sourced from Timmermans Brewery, where the lambic has aged for over eight months in wooden barrels. This blending technique bridges the worlds of traditional top-fermented ale and spontaneously fermented lambic. The Bruges microbrewery also functions as a visitor destination, offering brewery tours that connect beer lovers with the long heritage of this iconic West Flemish brand. The on-site shop stocks the full Bourgogne des Flandres portfolio alongside other John Martin group brands.
