Jever is a German beer brand with roots stretching back to 1848, when innkeeper Diedrich König announced he would begin selling bottled beer in the city of Jever, located in the Friesland region of Lower Saxony. The brewery, known as the Friesisches Brauhaus zu Jever, has brewed its beers in the same town ever since, building a reputation over more than 170 years of continuous production. Today the brand is part of the Radeberger Gruppe, one of Germany's largest brewing groups, which includes other notable names such as DAB and Dortmunder Union. Jever is best known for its Jever Pilsener, a classic North German pilsner celebrated for its distinctively bitter, dry character — a hallmark of the northern German brewing tradition. The brewery emphasises traditional techniques rooted in the Frisian brewing heritage, and all Jever beers are vegan-friendly. Beyond the flagship pilsner, the portfolio includes Jever Fun, an alcohol-free variant that maintains the brand's characteristic bitter profile. A former product, Jever Export, was available until 1990. Jever Pilsener enjoys a strong reputation both in Germany and internationally, and has served as an inspiration for brewers worldwide — notably influencing the development of the Italian Pilsner style. The brand is considered one of the finest examples of the North German pilsner style, rooted firmly in the brewing traditions of Friesland.
