Hijos de Rivera is a family-owned Spanish brewing company founded in 1906 and headquartered in A Coruña, in the Galicia region of northwestern Spain. With over a century of brewing heritage, the company has grown from a regional producer into one of Spain's most recognised independent breweries, currently holding around 6% of the Spanish beer market. The company remains privately held and has been producing beer continuously for more than 119 years. The flagship brand of Hijos de Rivera is Estrella Galicia, a pale lager brewed with locally sourced barley and the soft water characteristic of the Galician region. In 1988, the company expanded its portfolio with the launch of Estrella Galicia Sin, a non-alcoholic beer. Beyond lager, the company also owns the 1906 brand, as well as Maeloc cider and Cabreiroa mineral water, making Hijos de Rivera a broader beverage group. In recent years, the company has actively expanded into craft beer by acquiring stakes in independent breweries, including a majority stake in Basqueland Brewing and an investment in Ireland's Carlow Brewing Company. Hijos de Rivera's commitment to quality and sustainability has earned the company recognition, including the 2024 Solenis Sustainability Award for water conservation in brewing. The Estrella Galicia Museum, located at the brewery in Oseiro, offers visitors an interactive experience exploring the brand's long brewing history.
