Brouwerij De Landtsheer is a Belgian brewery located in Buggenhout, in the East Flanders province. The brewery has roots going back to around 1905, when an earlier incarnation operated in nearby Baasrode before ceasing operations in 1937. The current brewery, based at Mandekenstraat 179 in Buggenhout, has revived and continued the regional brewing tradition under the De Landtsheer name, producing beers that reflect a strong sense of place and Belgian brewing heritage. The brewery is best known for its Malheur range of speciality beers, which includes a variety of styles that highlight Belgian craftsmanship. Among the most distinctive offerings are the champagne-style beers, brewed using champagne yeast and refermented in the bottle in a method reminiscent of traditional méthode traditionnelle sparkling wine production. The Malheur 10, for example, is noted for its lively carbonation and fresh aromas of melon and citrus. The brewery also produces strong Belgian ales, including the Malheur 12° Colossal, fermented with Westmalle yeasts. Brewery De Landtsheer has earned recognition in international beer circles. Its beers have been awarded at the European Beer Challenge, including a Double Gold distinction. In blind tastings, Malheur beers have placed ahead of iconic Belgian benchmarks such as Westmalle Tripel and Chimay White, underlining the brewery's reputation for producing noble, high-quality living beers.
