Brewery

Pelforth

Pelforth is a French brewery with deep roots in northern France, originating from a collaboration in 1921 in the Lens region. Its flagship beer, Pelforth, is an ale that was first brewed in 1935 using two different types of malt and English yeast — a recipe that laid the foundation for the brand's enduring identity. Over the decades, Pelforth grew into one of France's most recognised beer brands and is now part of the Heineken portfolio. The brewery's range centres on accessible yet characterful beer styles. Its core lineup includes Pelforth Blonde, a pale blonde ale, and Pelforth Brune, a dark ale that has long been a staple of French café culture. An Ambrée variant rounds out the range, offering a richer, malt-forward middle ground between the blonde and brune. These beers reflect a French brewing tradition rooted in British ale influence, distinguished by the use of English yeast strains and carefully selected malts. Pelforth is also historically linked to the George Killian brand — an Irish-inspired red ale whose brewing rights were originally acquired from Lett's Brewery in Ireland. The Killian's name was later licensed to Coors in the United States. In 2021, Pelforth celebrated its centenary, marking one hundred years of brewing in northern France.
