Brouwerij Hommeles

Brouwerij Hommeles is a craft brewery rooted in the community of Houten, in the Dutch province of Utrecht. The brewery was founded by Jos Eberson, Jan Ausems and Kees Volkers, who came together through the Houtens Brouwcollectief — a local brewing collective through which the three men wanted to share their passion for great beer. Their name is a playful nod to the Latin word humulus, the botanical name for the hop plant, signalling from the very start that hop character would be central to their identity. Hommeles brews a range of specialty beers, known in Dutch as speciaalbieren, that reflect both creativity and craftsmanship. The brewery is not afraid to experiment and regularly enters into collaborations that go beyond the beer itself. A fine example is their barrel-aged Bokkepruik, a vatgerijpt bier that showcases their willingness to push traditional styles in new directions. They have also brewed bespoke beers for outside projects, including a Verlichtend Blond and a Verduisterend Donker developed especially for the VONK event. Hommeles has built a solid reputation in the West Netherlands beer scene, with their Winterwarmer earning recognition on TasteAtlas as one of the best-rated beers in the region. Whether collaborating with local partners or crafting seasonal releases, Brouwerij Hommeles continues to demonstrate that great beer starts with curiosity, community and a love of the hop.
