Namibia Breweries Limited (NBL) was established on 29 October 1920, making it one of the oldest and most storied brewing institutions in southern Africa. Originally operating under the name South West Breweries Limited (SWB), the company adopted its current name when Namibia gained independence. With a legacy spanning more than 100 years of quality beer brewing, NBL became a publicly listed company on the Namibian Stock Exchange (NSX) in 1996, cementing its position as a cornerstone of the Namibian economy. In 2023, NBL was acquired by HEINEKEN as part of a broader transaction that also included Distell Group Holdings, integrating the brewer into one of the world's leading beer companies. As the largest beer manufacturer in Namibia and a leader in the domestic beer market, NBL has long been a subsidiary of the Ohlthaver & List (O&L) Group prior to the HEINEKEN acquisition. The brewery's portfolio is anchored by its flagship brand, Windhoek, which has become an iconic name well beyond Namibia's borders. NBL also brews Tafel Lager, a popular domestic lager that has more recently been extended with a lighter variant, Tafel Lager Lite, demonstrating the brewery's responsiveness to evolving consumer preferences.
