Grupo Modelo is a major Mexican brewery founded in 1925 in Mexico City by a group of entrepreneurs. From the very beginning, the brewery set out to produce high-quality beer for the Mexican market, quickly establishing itself as the leading force in the country's brewing industry. In 2013, the Belgian-Brazilian conglomerate AB InBev acquired Grupo Modelo, integrating the Mexican brewery into its global portfolio of brands. Over nearly a century of brewing, Grupo Modelo has built an extensive portfolio of lagers and pilsners aimed at both the domestic Mexican market and international consumers. Its most iconic export brands include Corona, Modelo Especial, and Pacífico, all of which have become globally recognised names. In addition to these internationally celebrated beers, Grupo Modelo also produces a range of brands intended exclusively for the domestic Mexican market, reflecting a deep commitment to serving local beer culture. With a total annual installed brewing capacity of 70 million hectolitres and a dominant market share of 62.8% in Mexico, Grupo Modelo is by far the largest brewer in the country. Corona in particular has grown into one of the best-selling beer brands in the United States, cementing Grupo Modelo's legacy as a cornerstone of global beer culture rooted in Mexican brewing tradition.
