Zwiefalter Klosterbräu is one of Germany's oldest brewing traditions, tracing its roots back to 1521 when Benedictine monks at the monastery in Zwiefalten, Baden-Württemberg, brewed their first beer. The construction of a new Brauhausen began in 1724, and since 1897 the brewery has been in the hands of the Baader family, who continue to uphold centuries of monastic brewing heritage on the Swabian Hills. The brewery's portfolio reflects its deep regional identity and traditional Swabian craftsmanship. Beers range from Kloster-Weizen and Pils to Export, Schwarzbier and seasonal Festbier. A defining characteristic of Zwiefalter Klosterbräu is its commitment to regional raw materials: barley malt is sourced from controlled local cultivation, echoing the self-sufficient ethos of its Benedictine founders. The Radler, a refreshing blend of light lager and lemonade, rounds out the range for more casual drinking occasions. With over 28 local agricultural businesses supplying ingredients, the brewery employs between 50 and 99 people and remains a meaningful part of the regional economy. Visitors can experience the brewery firsthand through guided tours and a brewery inn, making Zwiefalter Klosterbräu not only a producer of traditional German beer styles but also a living piece of Swabian cultural heritage.
