Volfas Engelman is one of Lithuania's oldest and most storied breweries, founded in 1853 by businessman Rafailas Volfas in the Vilijampolė suburb of Kaunas. The brewery's roots stretch back to the mid-nineteenth century, making it one of the earliest established breweries in the Baltic region. The Volfas Engelman trademark was officially registered in 1927, following the amalgamation of brewing operations at the time. In 1999, the brewery merged with the Finnish Olvi Group, joining a family of Baltic breweries that also includes A. Le Coq in Estonia, Saku in Estonia, Lidskoe Pivo in Belarus, and the Uniqua water plant in Lithuania. As part of the Olvi Group, Volfas Engelman produces a broad portfolio of beers catering to Lithuanian tastes and export markets alike. The brewery is known for its lagers and other accessible beer styles that have earned a loyal following in Lithuania and beyond. Prior to the Second World War, the brewery also exported its beers internationally, reflecting a long tradition of quality and reach. The brand sits alongside other strong labels such as Fortas and licensed Heineken beers within the wider Lithuanian beer market. Volfas Engelman celebrated its 170th anniversary in 2023, underscoring its remarkable longevity in an ever-changing beer landscape. The brewery has also engaged in collaborative brewing projects, including a partnership with Lidskoe Pivo since 2017, producing beers jointly between Lithuania and Belarus. Its deep historical roots and continued relevance make Volfas Engelman a cornerstone of Baltic brewing heritage.
