Sleeman Breweries is one of Canada's most storied brewing names, with roots stretching back to 1834 when John H. Sleeman first established the family brewery. The company's history took a dramatic turn in 1933 when it lost its licence due to involvement in smuggling and tax evasion during Prohibition, forcing it to close its doors for half a century. It was not until John Sleeman revived the family legacy that the brewery reopened, returning to brewing on the same family land in Guelph, Ontario, where it all began. Today, Sleeman Breweries stands as Canada's third-largest brewer, operating out of its headquarters at 551 Clair Road West in Guelph. The company stewards an expansive portfolio of Canadian brewery brands, including Sleeman itself, Unibroue, Wild Rose, Okanagan Spring, and Pabst Blue Ribbon. This broad range of styles — from craft-inspired ales to lagers and specialty beers — reflects Sleeman's ambition to serve beer lovers across the full spectrum of taste preferences. Among the most recognised beers in the Sleeman lineup is the Sleeman Cream Ale, widely regarded as the flagship and most iconic product of the brand. Sleeman Breweries is currently owned by Japanese brewing giant Sapporo, which has helped the company maintain its national reach while preserving the distinctly Canadian identity that has defined the brand for generations.
