Kloster Andechs is a Benedictine abbey brewery located in the Fünfseenland region of Upper Bavaria, Germany. Perched atop the "Holy Mountain" (Heiliger Berg) overlooking the Bavarian lake district, the monastery has a centuries-long history of brewing that has made it one of Germany's most celebrated and storied monastic brewing traditions. Its stately baroque basilica is as much a landmark as the brewery itself, drawing pilgrims and beer enthusiasts alike. The brewery produces a range of traditional Bavarian styles, characterized by rich malty depth, floral hop character, and exceptional brewing craftsmanship. Among its signature offerings is the Bergbock Hell — a luminous gold-colored Bock beer with malty nuances, floral hop character, and accents of light fruitiness. The Kloster Andechs Hell, a Hefeweizen at 5.5%, is another well-regarded beer in the portfolio, appreciated for its balance and drinkability. Kloster Andechs enjoys a strong international reputation and is regularly mentioned alongside Bavaria's most iconic breweries, including Ayinger, Augustiner, and Weihenstephaner. Visitors can experience the brewery through guided tours — including a virtual reality tour — and enjoy hearty Bavarian cuisine at the monastery's own restaurant, making it a complete destination for lovers of beer and Bavarian culture.
