Culmination Brewing Company was a craft brewery based in northeast Portland, Oregon. Founded by Tomas Sluiter and co-owner April Sluiter, the brewery established itself as a respected name in the Portland beer scene, known for its philosophy of innovation and community collaboration. The brewery operated with a clear vision: by looking back at familiar flavors and brewing traditions, it moved forward with updated and evolved interpretations of classic beer styles. Culmination built a reputation for a diverse and ambitious beer portfolio, with innovation at its core. Among its notable releases was the 4 & 20 Imperial Black IPA, a collaborative beer brewed with Lucky Labrador Brewing, described as showcasing smooth and complex characteristics. Over its first year alone, the brewery produced more than 25 different beers, reflecting a commitment to variety across styles and a willingness to experiment with hop-forward, malt-driven, and collaborative recipes. The taproom in northeast Portland served as a gathering point for the local craft beer community. Despite its strong creative output and respected standing among Portland beer enthusiasts, Culmination Brewing faced significant financial difficulties. After bondholders through the SMBX platform sent the brewery to a collections agency, founder Tomas Sluiter announced the brewery's closure. The final day of operation was February 15th, 2025, marking the end of a notable chapter in Portland's craft brewing history.
