Compañía Salus S.A. is a Uruguayan beverage company based in the Lavalleja Department of Uruguay. The company has long been one of the most significant players in the Uruguayan drinks industry, holding a prominent position as the second largest beer producer in the country. Its history took a major corporate turn in October 2000, when Compañía Salus was acquired through a joint venture between Groupe Danone and AmBev — the Brazilian brewing giant formed by the merger of Brahma and Antarctica. Through this partnership, AmBev contributed its Uruguayan beer operations to the venture, while Danone assumed control of the company's mineral water activities. As a brewer, Salus has historically catered to the Uruguayan domestic beer market, competing alongside the country's leading producers. The company's beer portfolio is oriented toward accessible, mainstream lager-style beers suited to the South American palate. Alongside its brewing activities, Salus is perhaps equally well known in Uruguay for its mineral water brand, making it a dual-category beverage producer with broad market reach across the country. In December 2020, Compañía Salus achieved certification as a B Corporation, reflecting a commitment to meeting rigorous social and environmental standards in its manufacturing operations. The company is headquartered in the Lavalleja Department and continues to operate within Uruguay's competitive beverages sector.
