Brasserie à Vapeur is a historic Belgian brewery located in the small village of Pipaix, in the province of Hainaut, Wallonia. Founded in 1785, the brewery has a remarkable history spanning more than two centuries. In 1984, history teacher Jean-Louis Dits took over the brewery, breathing new life into one of Belgium's most distinctive brewing operations. The brewery's name — which translates to 'steam brewery' — is no mere marketing flourish: Brasserie à Vapeur is widely recognised as the last brewery in the world still powered by a 19th-century steam engine. The brewery specialises in artisanal Belgian ales, with a particular focus on the traditional Wallonian saison style. Despite its remarkably small production volume, Brasserie à Vapeur has earned a strong international reputation among beer enthusiasts and collectors alike. The beers are known for their earthy, rustic character — a direct reflection of the traditional brewing methods and heritage equipment used in the brewery. Visiting Brasserie à Vapeur is described as a truly immersive experience, transporting guests back to the 19th century. The brewery has gained international recognition and its beers are distributed abroad, including in the United States through specialist import portfolios. It stands as a living monument to Belgium's rich brewing heritage.
