Anheuser-Busch traces its roots to 1852, when German immigrant George Schneider founded the Bavarian Brewery in St. Louis, Missouri. Eberhard Anheuser acquired the struggling operation in 1860, renaming it E. Anheuser & Company. His son-in-law Adolphus Busch joined the business in 1859 after arriving in the United States at age 18, and together they transformed the brewery into one of the most powerful brewing enterprises in American history. Leveraging innovations such as refrigerated railcars, Anheuser-Busch was able to distribute its beer nationwide, laying the foundation for its extraordinary growth. The company passed through several name changes before becoming Anheuser-Busch Brewing Association in 1879. Anheuser-Busch built its reputation on accessible, widely distributed lager styles that came to define mainstream American beer culture. Its flagship brand, Budweiser, became one of the best-selling beers in the world, joined by a broad portfolio that includes Bud Light, Michelob Ultra, and a range of specialty and craft brewery partners. The St. Louis headquarters remains the historic heart of the brand, and the brewery complex on One Busch Place offers visitors a unique experience celebrating the company's rich brewing heritage. In 2008, Anheuser-Busch was acquired by InBev, forming the global brewing giant Anheuser-Busch InBev (AB InBev), now one of the largest beer companies on earth. Despite operating under a multinational umbrella, the St. Louis brewery continues to serve as an iconic landmark, offering tours and dining experiences that pay tribute to the American brewing legacy that Adolphus Busch and Eberhard Anheuser built over more than 150 years.
