Wodan Weizenwein
Wodan Weizenwein from Van Moll in Eindhoven is an ambitious experiment: an Imperial Weizen that the brewery itself calls a 'weizenwein'. The beer doubles the malt and hop of their core recipe, resulting in a surprisingly smooth, well-balanced beer at 10.5% ABV.
Brewed with Pilsner, wheat and Munich malt, and aromatic with Citra, Amarillo and Centennial hops, Wodan presents a fruity, enticing nose with notes of clove and banana. The palate is silky and dangerously drinkable, carried by characteristic Weizen yeast and American hop bitterness.
This blonde, lightly coloured wheat beer proves that more malt and hop do not automatically lead to imbalance. The result is a beer that can be understood both as an Imperial Weizen and as a wheat wine.
