Jopen Jacobus RPA
Jopen Jacobus RPA is an American-style Pale Ale named after Haarlem's Jacobskerk, the former church that now houses Jopen brewery. Created to commemorate the church's centenary in 2011, this rye-focused ale stands out among Dutch craft beers.
Brewed from four grains—malted barley, wheat, oats and rye—the beer balances spicy, peppery rye character with fruity bitterness from American hops. Citrus, toast and caramel notes emerge on the palate, creating a smooth rather than sweet profile despite its modest 5.5% ABV.
International recognition came in 2013 when Jacobus RPA was named World's Best Rye Speciality Beer, cementing its place among Europe's finest grain-forward pale ales.
