Gulden Draak is a dark, full-bodied tripel brewed by Brouwerij Van Steenberge in Ertvelde, Belgium, since 1986. The name—Dutch for Golden Dragon—draws from the iconic statue adorning Ghent's belfry, symbolising seven centuries of heritage. This beer is crafted using noble hops and distinctive yeast strains in a traditional top-fermentation process. Four different malt varieties create a complex flavour foundation of caramel, toffee, and dark fruit notes, complemented by subtle roasted malt and coffee undertones. The 10.5% ABV is well-balanced and warming without overwhelming the palate. Despite its strength, Gulden Draak remains surprisingly approachable and rewarding.
