Poortwachter is a distinctive Porter from Brouwerij Slot Oostende, housed in the historic Slot Oostende castle in Goes. This dark beer features an intriguing twist: it is brewed with boerenjongens (raisins preserved in brandy) and vanilla, giving it an uncommon flavour dimension. Despite its jet-black colour, the beer drinks surprisingly soft. Notes of dried fruit, gentle toastiness and nutty maltiness form a harmonious core, complemented by subtle herbal character and a hint of liquorice. The finish is dry and spiced, with a lingering impression of dried fruit. At 7% ABV, Poortwachter delivers a full, medium-bodied structure that suits its complex taste profile well.
