Iwate Kura Beer is the brand of Sekinoichi Shuzo, a brewery in Iwate Prefecture with over 100 years of heritage. Originally a sake producer, the company began brewing beer in 1995, shortly after microbreweries were legalized in Japan. The brewery operates as a unique cooperative backed by five companies. Iwate Kura offers a diverse range of beers, from traditional lagers to experimental styles. Their portfolio includes a Smoke Ale with characteristic smoky and sweet notes, a Sweet Caramel Ale infused with vanilla, and an Oyster Stout. The brewery is notable for incorporating local ingredients, such as yuzu citrus from the Miyagi region in select stronger brews.
