Oudbeitje from Geuzestekerij Hanssens Artisanaal is a fruit lambic made with fresh strawberries macerated in young lambic, then barrel-aged with bottle fermentation. Hanssels, established in Dworp in 1896 and the world's oldest independent geuze blender, does not brew beer itself but carefully selects and blends young and aged lambics. The nose reveals cooked strawberry preserves, light acetic notes and oak. The palate is sharp and tart, dominated by sourness and fermentation character with less fruit than the aroma suggests. Mouthfeel is light-bodied with low carbonation and oily texture, with acidity and tannins cutting through. The finish is quick and pointed.
