Chimay Grande Réserve Rum Edition is a distinctive 2017 vintage from Trappist brewery Bières de Chimay. This strong dark Belgian ale was aged in rum and oak casks—a blend of 36% French and 42% American oak—transforming the classic Grande Réserve into a complex, wood-forward expression. On the nose, vanilla, marzipan and toasted wood emerge clearly. The palate delivers roasted malt character, dark fruits like plum and raisin, with subtle clove spice and a warm rum undertone. The beer is full-bodied and warming, with a lingering finish where wood and residual sweetness create balance. This is a beer for deliberate enjoyment—one that rewards patience and reveals layers of flavour as it opens in the glass.
