Devil's Backbone is an amber ale from Kinnegar Brewing in County Donegal, Ireland. This deep red beer balances a robust malt base with a generous helping of hops, deliberately steering away from the traditional Irish red ale formula. The result is a fuller, more layered beer than the style typically delivers. The glass reveals a deep red pour with good head retention. Dried fruit and subtle spice emerge on the nose. Malt takes centre stage on the palate, accompanied by red fruit notes, citrus hop character and a whisper of chocolate. The hop bitterness is well-judged, providing a clean and refreshing finish.
