Original Schlüssel is the flagship of Hausbrauerei Zum Schlüssel, the smallest of Düsseldorf's four altbier breweries. Brewing since 1850, this Düsseldorf institution maintains traditional methods, including the distinctive use of 100-litre wooden barrels. This altbier strikes a balanced profile: nutty and bready malt forms the foundation, supported by subtle caramel and coffee notes. Noble hops (32 IBU) deliver elegant bitterness without dominance, leading to a dry finish with delicate hop character. Smooth and flavourful yet refreshing—a classic Düsseldorf altbier that reflects generations of brewing tradition.
