Brekle's Brown honours Gottlieb Brekle, the German immigrant who founded Anchor Brewing in 1896. This American brown ale draws inspiration from historical recipes in the brewery's archives and relies exclusively on Citra hops for its distinctive citrus character. The beer displays a coppery brown colour beneath a generous, lacy head. The nose reveals malt-forward aromas—bread and caramel—complemented by a striking lemony citrus note from the Citra hop. On the palate, sweet malt flavours of caramel and brown sugar take centre stage, balanced by a piney, citrus-driven bitterness. The finish is clean and dry. At 6% ABV, this is a refined take on the brown ale style—lighter and more refreshing than traditional examples.
