Mean Sardine Brewery is a craft brewery from Ericeira, a coastal town in Portugal known for its surf culture and Atlantic character. The brewery began as a homebrewing project before spending eight years operating as a contract brewery, producing artisan beers both in Portugal and abroad. Over the past decade, Mean Sardine has grown into one of the most recognised names in Portuguese craft beer, twice being awarded Portugal's Best Brewery by RateBeer Best. The brewery's portfolio reflects its coastal identity, with a range of styles that showcase bold character and Atlantic soul. Among their most celebrated beers is Voragem, a Black IPA known for its intense hop character combined with dark malts, delivering strong bitterness alongside roasted depth. Their range also includes a Dry Stout built on roasted malts with notes of coffee and a clean, approachable finish, as well as a Hibiscus Ale that highlights their willingness to experiment with creative ingredients. Mean Sardine has become a flagship of the Portuguese craft beer scene, regularly appearing at festivals such as Lisbon's Beer Festival and collaborating with other breweries in the local market. Their beers are distributed internationally, including in the Netherlands, making their Atlantic-inspired brews accessible well beyond the shores of Ericeira.
