Klosterbrauerei Andechs is a monastery brewery located in Andechs, Bavaria, Germany. The brewery has its roots in the historic Andechs Abbey, a Benedictine monastery perched on the so-called Holy Mountain overlooking the Ammersee lake. The decision to found the monastery on this site marked the beginning of a centuries-long brewing tradition closely tied to monastic life and Bavarian culture. The brewery is known for producing a range of traditional Bavarian beer styles. Its portfolio includes a Helles lager known as Andechser Hell, a characterful Dunkel described as a malt-forward dark lager, and a Doppelbock Dunkel with an ABV of 7.1%, a powerful dark double bock rooted in the strong beer tradition of Bavarian monasteries. The brewery is also noted for producing a wheat beer, including an alcohol-free version that has been used as a reference product in low-alcohol brewing technology demonstrations. These beers reflect the craftsmanship and ingredient-focused approach typical of Bavarian monastic brewing. Klosterbrauerei Andechs holds a reputation as one of the few remaining active brewery operations situated within a working monastery. Its Doppelbock Dunkel has attracted attention from beer collectors internationally, and its Helles is served in notable establishments. The brewery remains an integral part of the Andechs Abbey experience, drawing visitors to the site for both its beers and its cultural and religious heritage.
