Grolsch is one of the oldest and most iconic Dutch breweries, founded in 1615 by Willem Neerfeldt in Groenlo, a small town in the east of the Netherlands. The name 'Grolsch' is derived from Groenlo, the city where the brewery was born. In 1895, the de Groen family acquired the brewery, shaping much of its modern identity. After being listed on the Dutch stock exchange from 1984, Grolsch was acquired by SABMiller in 2008, cementing its place as a globally distributed beer brand. Today, the brewery is headquartered in Enschede and operates under the name Koninklijke Grolsch N.V. — Royal Grolsch — a title that reflects its longstanding reputation in Dutch brewing history. Grolsch is perhaps best known for its Grolsch Premium Pilsner, a crisp and well-balanced lager that has become a flagship across international markets. The brand also produces Grolsch 0.0%, catering to the growing demand for alcohol-free options, as well as Grolsch Stender. The broader portfolio distributed under the Grolsch umbrella includes well-known international labels such as Pilsner Urquell, Peroni Nastro Azzurro, Tyskie, and Lech Premium, reflecting its position within a major global brewing group. Grolsch holds more than 14 percent of the Dutch beer market, making it one of the dominant players in its home country. The brewery is equally recognisable for its iconic swing-top bottle — a hallmark of the brand's craftsmanship and tradition that has helped distinguish Grolsch on shelves around the world for over four centuries.
