Schloss Eggenberg is one of Austria's most storied breweries, tracing its origins back to the 14th century. Located in Vorchdorf, in the Upper Austria region, the brewery was acquired by Johan George Forstinger in 1803 and has remained a family operation ever since. With brewing traditions stretching back to 1681, Eggenberg stands as a living monument to Austrian beer culture, blending centuries of craft with a modern edge that continues to earn it international recognition. The brewery's portfolio spans a wide range of styles, from the crisp Hopfenkonig Pilsner and refreshing Radler to robust, full-flavoured lagers brewed at export strength. Eggenberg is particularly known for its dedication to traditional brewing methods, producing beers that are celebrated for their depth of flavour and aroma. The range reflects both the classical heritage of Central European brewing and a willingness to push boundaries within the craft. Perhaps the most famous beer in the Eggenberg lineup is Samichlaus, originally brewed by Zurich's Brauerei Hürlimann and once considered one of the strongest beers in the world. When production ceased, Schloss Eggenberg revived the legendary recipe in 2000, brewing it according to Hürlimann's original formula. Brewery tours are a regular part of the Eggenberg experience, welcoming beer enthusiasts from around the world to explore its historic castle grounds and exceptional tap offerings.
