Brouwerij Slaghmuylder is a historic family brewery founded in 1860 by grain merchant Emmanuel Slaghmuylder in the centre of Ninove, Belgium. What began as a sidestep from the grain trade has grown into a multi-generational brewing institution that has stood the test of time. The brewery remains a family affair to this day, with each generation building on the legacy of the last and steadily expanding the beer portfolio over the years. Slaghmuylder is perhaps best known for its Witkap range, a line of abbey-style beers that the brewery has been producing since 1979. The range includes the Witkap Stimulo, a pale ale at 6% ABV, the Witkap Pater Dubbel, a brown ale at 7% ABV, and the Witkap Pater Tripel at 7.5% ABV. The name 'Witkap' translates as 'white cap', a nod to the monastic heritage that inspired these brews. The Witkap Pater Singel is also recognised as one of the best-known secular commercial examples of a singel-style beer. The brewery in Ninove is more than just a production site — it is a living piece of Belgian beer history. In recent years, Slaghmuylder has even planted hops on the brewery grounds, aiming to reconnect visitors and beer lovers with the raw ingredients behind their favourite pints. The brewery's dedication to tradition, family values and quality craftsmanship has earned it a respected place in the Belgian beer landscape.
