Lagunitas Brewing Company
United States · Founded in 1993
Lagunitas Brewing Company was founded in 1993 by Tony Magee, starting modestly on a kitchen stove in Northern California. What began as a small, experimental operation gradually grew into one of the largest and most recognized craft breweries in the United States. In 2015, Heineken acquired a 50% stake in the company, and by 2017 had purchased the remaining shares, making Lagunitas a fully owned part of the Heineken portfolio while retaining its distinct craft identity. Lagunitas built its reputation on bold, hop-forward beers, with a particular focus on the American IPA style. The brewery is widely regarded as a pioneer of the IPA movement in the United States, earning the nickname "the OG of IPA." Their flagship IPA is characterized by rich malt body alongside prominent notes of citrus, pine, and caramel, finishing dry and bitter with a smooth finish. Beyond their iconic IPA, the brewery has continued to innovate with a diverse and adventurous portfolio of craft beers. Lagunitas has built a loyal global following and its beers are available internationally, including on tap at craft beer bars across the Netherlands. The brand has also embraced collaboration brewing, including an upcycled beer project, demonstrating a continued commitment to creativity and experimentation within the craft beer world.
